Cashing on the accrued vacations

Vacations at different companies are accrued over to the next year with a most common limit of 1 week per year. So, if you have 4 weeks vacations and you use only 1 week then you will be able to carry over 1 week only to the next year. Your 2 weeks will go waste. There are many employees which have faced this issue at different companies. I feel companies should allow employees to cash in those 2 weeks of paid vacations if they are not using it and give them proportionate amount of salary. Implementing this the company will not only motivate employees but will do justice to the employees who are working hard and skipping their vacations to take care of business for the company.
