Establishing a Talent management mindset in a company

Strategy to establish a Talent management mindset

Talent management is a critical and essential part of any manager’s role. All managers will be trained to posses the following attributes:-

Coaching which seeks to help people to see and do things differently – better, faster, more effectively. Coaching can improve performance in a current role and at a specific stage in the individual’s career.

Mentoring which is the process of developing and growing the individual for future roles. Mentoring works on a person’s perceived potential and how this might be realised in the foreseeable future.

Empowering is about letting go, so that others can get going. Successful empowering involves setting clear boundaries for autonomy – freedom within a framework – so that there is absolute clarity and agreement about what is mandatory and what is discretionary. Essentially, empowering people is about establishing focused, productive independence of thinking and action, within defined boundaries of organization.

Sponsoring is the process of opening doors, removing blockages and penetrating unnecessary bureaucracy, on behalf of a talented people, so that they are brought to the attention of senior executives and other pivotal players in a company and, therefore, are more able use their talents to make a bigger, or more appropriate, contribution to the business.
