Usually the process is that managers set the goals for employees but I propose a new process which will allow employees to set goals for themselves which aligns with the goals of his manager and which in turn are aligned with the goals of upper management and chain continues till it reaches the goals of the Board. All employees should be required to fill out a performance excellence form once the manager has identified and aligned his goals for the entire year. For example: - The goal of a Director might be to create the 500 sites for the company operations, a data manager working for him will have a goal which will align with this goal and the goal would be – ensure that all the data related to Products, Price, Promotions, Sites and Vendors is correctly present in the system. An employee working for the Data manager, who is primary working on one product category, will have a goal aligned with the data manager as that all data related to that product category will be correct. Another employee who works on promotions for that category will have a goal aligned with the data manager as that all the promotional data will be correct for the respective category. All the employees working for the data manager will have the goals derived from the data manager goals. In addition to the corporate goals, employees should be encouraged to have some personal goals as well, which might be good for the career advancement. It could be anything from reading a book to getting some training in new area or working on some challenging project. This additional goals help management identify some of the hidden talents in individuals and it is not uncommon in where employees switch from one group to an entirely different group based on their talents.
